In my opinion, there is no better nor safer product that you can use in your fight against bed bugs than diatomaceous earth. It is deadly for the bugs. But it is safe for you, your family, and your pets.
Diatomaceous earth is a finely ground powder. You puff it into the small gaps and recesses where bed bugs like to hide.
It takes a little time to work so you shouldn’t expect it to work overnight. Along with other steps it can be a very effective tool in your arsenal. The reason that it takes time is because of the way that it works.
The finely ground particles that it is made of will tear holes in the abdomen of the bed bugs. Over time, it dries them out so they die.
You’ll be able to see it working when you use it when you see dried out husks of the bugs. It won’t kill eggs so you are going to need to be patient while the bugs hatch and then crawl through the dust.
How To Use Diatomaceous Earth
You just need a small dusting of the powder. Apply the powder everywhere that the bugs can hide. It is a safe product to use around people and pets. You can apply it to areas where you might be concerned about using other chemicals.
Although I never put it on bed linens or pillows I use it on the mattresses and frames. I also put it along the edges of carpets around the bed and any furniture near the bed.
It last as long as you can see it but re-apply whenever you vacuum or it gets cleaned up.
Learning how to use diatomaceous earth is just one part of an effective strategy to treat for the bugs.
