How To Check For Bed Bugs
Bed Bug Bites might be the first sign that you have an infestation. One of the first steps that you must take if you suspect an infestation is to make sure that it’s bedbugs that you are dealing with within your home. This is important because they need to be treated differently than other pests.
The best way to do this is by searching for and finding some of the bugs. These bugs feed on the blood of their victims so they like to be close to the places where you sleep. They like to feed while you sleep so you aren’t moving around disturbing them.
These bugs are small with a flat oval-shaped body about the size of an apple seed. They hide in the cracks and crevices of furniture, behind pictures on your walls, and along carpet edges. If you have an infestation it’s also likely that you will find them along the seams of your mattress and sheets, and on the bed frame.
BedBugs generally but not always hide out during the day and come out to feed during the early hours of the day when we are in our deepest sleep.
To find them you need to look for the actual bug and signs of them like blood smears, eggs, and fecal dropping.
Do Bed Bugs Have Wings
These bugs get around by crawling or hitchhiking on people or objects. They can be found often on used furniture. For this reason, closely check any furniture or boxes that you bring into your home.
But there are actually vestiges of wings that are non-working. In one night they are able to crawl up to 20 feet. Their small size lets them squeeze through electrical plugs and along plumbing. This is how an infection in a neighboring unit can infest your home.
How Do You Get Bed Bugs
You can get Bed Bugs from a variety of places. If you are in an apartment or office that has them they can attach to your clothing. This brings them home with you. If you bring in an infested piece of used furniture or clothing you can bring them into your home. Where Do You Get Bed Bugs
These bugs have been found in hospitals, theaters, restaurants, and warehouses. They can get delivered in packages. It’s possible that they can get into your home from neighboring apartments/condos that are infested.
Bottom line is that there is any number of ways these bugs can get into your home. Your defense is to be aware and alert so if you get some bugs you treat to kill them before the infestation gets larger. The larger the infestation the harder it is to treat.
How To Treat Bed Bug Bites
As disgusting as it is to think about having dozens(hundreds) of these bugs crawling around on your bed, their bites can be worse. How problematic these bites can vary from person to person.
In general, the bites can become very itchy, and last for several days before they fade. But there are things that you can do. Hydrocortisone creams and antihistamines can speed recovery from the bites and dull the itch.
How To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs
In order to treat for Bed Bugs, you first need to locate them. The bigger the infestation the more places they will be as they look for more sources of food. Most of the time they will be located around anyplace where you sleep.
One mistake is made a lot of times by people when they get an infestation. It is that people will sleep somewhere else if their bed becomes infested. The problem is that these bugs can smell us and just follow you. Or you might bring some with the sheets, pillows, or on your clothing.
So you need to attack an infestation as soon as you see them. The bigger an infestation the harder it is to treat.
Bed Bug Spray can be used. There are two types. One is a spray that kills on contact. Another is a residual killer, one that can kill for weeks.
One thing that you need to remember is that it’s really hard to treat for the eggs these bugs lay. They hatch anywhere from 7 to 10 days depending upon the temperature. Once they hatch they can start a new infestation unless you treat again.
So the key to killing an infestation is to treat as often as you need to treat. Anyone that tells you these bugs can be killed with one treatment is exaggerating. You want to get rid of those Bed Bug bites!
