Getting Rid Of Bed Bugs

By | November 21, 2014

One question that I get asked a lot is about getting rid of bed bugs.  There are a number of different thoughts on this but all need certain methods to be successful.  Here are some things for you to think about.

Should You Find A Local Bed Bug Exterminator?

In order to start getting rid bed bugs you first need to decide whether you are going to try to treat them yourself or whether you want to use an exterminator.  Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

If you use a professional exterminator it means that you will be able to access chemicals to kill the bugs that you would be unable to get on your own.  But you should always use caution when hiring an exterminator.  Every once in a while I still see ads from exterminators that guarantee one visit to kill these bugs and this is an impossible task to accomplish.

Despite the fact that the numbers of infestations from these bugs continues to grow dramatically, many exterminators still don’t know how to treat them.  In part this is true because of the eggs that the bugs lay which are extremely difficult to kill.  In fact the easiest way to kill the eggs is to let them hatch and then kill the bugs.

Inexperienced exterminators will try to use the chemicals and methods that work for other pests and this isn’t going to work for bed bugs.  At best an inexperienced exterminator is a waste of time, at worst they will make the problem worse.

So if you use an exterminator you need to make sure that they have a plan that includes multiple re-treatments if needed.

Getting Rid of Bed Bugs Yourself

The alternative of course is getting rid of bed bugs yourself.  This will also help you to save the cost of an exterminator and allow you to use the methods and treatments that you feel safe using.

There are natural bed bug treatments that are just as effective as the harsh chemicals used by exterminators that you can use.  These can include things like diatomaceous earth.  There are also natural oils that you can use.

Killing bed bugs yourself can be a bit more complicated than using an exterminator or just buying a can of bed bugs spray but it also gives you better control over what is used and in the long run can save you a lot of money and aggravation.

Steps For Getting Rid of Bed Bugs

Whether or not you choose to use an exterminator, making sure that you follow the right steps to prep for treatments will help to insure ensure that you will be successful in getting rid of the bugs.
