The fact is that even if you are the world’s neatest cleaner and keep your home absolutely spotless you can still get bedbugs.

That’s because these bugs just don’t care how clean or dirty your home is – they just want to find people that they can feed on.

And if you are unlucky enough to get a bed bug infestation the people that they are going to feed on is you and your family.

“Bed Bugs Are After People Not A Messy Home”

What a messy house does do is give these bugs more places to hide from your exterminating efforts.  This makes it harder to get rid of bed bugs.

Most of the time, unless it is an extremely large infestation, the bugs are mainly going to be found near the beds that you sleep in.

So cleaning the mess around even just these areas will make it easier to treat and kill the bedbugs.

Bed Bug Treatment

Bedbug extermination takes some specific steps that you can do yourself.  To be successful in getting rid of these bugs you should follow the following steps even if you are going to hire an exterminator.

These steps include:

  • Identifying the Bugs That Are Bothering You

  • Preparing For Treatment
  • Retreating

Some of it can be found in your local store but the only place that I have been able to find everything in one stop is on-line at do your own bed bug treatment.

Buying these products on-line gets them delivered right to your door without running around town trying to find everything you need or dealing with the knowing looks that you get when you check out at the register with a bunch of bedbug killing supplies.

How To Identify Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs have been around for a long time but they have recently started to turn up more and more for two reasons.

The first reason is that they are becoming more resistant to the current products that exterminators use to try and kill them.

Then the second reason has to do with the fact that we are becoming more of an urban society, living closer together, which makes it easier for the bugs to travel from host to host and home to home when we live so close together.

So the first step that you have to take to get rid of bed bugs is identifying the bugs and making sure that it is actually bed bugs that you are having problems with in your home.

“Look For Bed Bugs Around Your Bed”

If you know where to look finding bedbugs is really pretty simple.  Most of the time, unless you have a large infestation, the bugs are going to be centered around the areas where you sleep.  This is because it makes it easier to get to you and your family for their feedings. Tips On Finding Bed Bugs

So the first step in your quest to get rid of bed bugs is to make sure and identify them.

You do this by searching around your bed or other area that you sleep.  You need to look carefully since these bugs are so small they can be hard to find.

But you can find them if you look in the right places.  Check your mattress along the seams for signs of the bugs that include the actual bugs, discarded shells as the bugs molt, blood spots if the bugs get crushed, and the fecal droppings that they leave behind.  Find Out More Here

Make A Safe Zone

Climb-up-Insect-Interceptors_largeJust like castles in ages past the next important step in getting rid of bed bugs is to create a safe zone around your bed(s) where the bed bugs can’t get to you.

This gives you instant relief and will keep the bedbugs away from you and your family as long as you do it correctly.  This also helps you get rid of bed bugs by keeping their prey inaccessible.

First you have to take your bed apart setting the springs and mattress aside while you clean and treat the bed frame.

Use the contact killers listed below or clean the area around the bed including the bed frame, and headboard.  It’s important to kill everything that is on your bed frame to make this work.

Then you also need to use a Mattress Encasements to seal in any bugs that are in your mattress or box springs.  This keeps any bugs that are already in your bed enclosed and away from you.

Make sure that you use bed bug powder on the frame as you put your bed back together.  Be careful not to rip your new mattress encasements but if you do just use duct tape to seal them again.

Make sure that you also use bed bug interceptor cups on the feet of your bed.  These cups fit on the legs of your bed and makes it impossible for the bugs to crawl up onto your bed.

Make sure that when you put the sheets and blankets on your bed that none of them touch the floor or all the work that you have done to make your bed safe from these bugs will be for nothing since the bugs will just crawl up the sheets and re-infest your bed.

These steps, done correctly, will give you immediate relief and help you get rid of bed bugs and give you time to treat the rest of the infestation.  Get Full Directions Here

Treating Your Home

Now you are ready to treat your home. Easy to use bed bug kits include everything that you need to treat your home.

Many people prefer to use natural products that are safer for their family and pets.  Examples of these are diatomaceous earth that you sprinkle around your bed so the bugs have to crawl through it to feed on you.

The diatomaceous earth is made of a powder that is designed to rip a hole in the abdomen of these bugs which dries them out and eventually kills them.

The downside of these powders is that it takes time to kill all the bugs.  The upside is that they last as long as they are left undisturbed.

I personally like to use everything that I can to get rid of an infestation as soon as I can and anything that will help make sure the bugs never come into my home again.

Re-Treat Is The Key To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are different from other bugs in that the eggs they lay are pretty tough to kill even if you spray contact killer right on them.  Then when the eggs hatch a week or so later the infestation starts all over again.

This is why you need to retreat your home as often at least once and possibly several times so you kill all the new bed bugs that hatch.

It’s also why you need to be careful of any exterminator that claims to be able to kill bed bugs in just one treatment.

Most contact killers fade over time so by the time that eggs hatch they will be useless.

So make sure that you treat with a long lasting powder and retreat with contact killer sprays as soon as you see new bed bugs or at least 7-10 days after the initial treatment – even if you still don’t see the new bugs.

Final Thoughts On How To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs

Whether you choose to hire an exterminator or do the work yourself, getting rid of bed bugs isn’t going to be an easy task.  To make sure that paying for an exterminator is successful you should do many of the same steps that you would use if you were exterminating bed bugs yourself.

By using the steps outlined above you have the best chance of getting rid of the bed bugs that are feeding on you and your family.

In fact, the hardest part of all is getting the materials and products that you need to treat for bed bugs.  Here is a good on-line source of bed bug kits that will help you treat for the bugs.

Then you need to be willing to invest the time and effort to prepare and treat your home.  If you don’t, chances are that you are not going to be able to kill the bed bugs or they are going to come back because you don’t take the time to retreat your home.
